Session 1

Ball Handling
Keepers have to catch the ball all the time - from shots, crosses and headers - and they have to hold on to it! Having safe hands is mainly down to practicing good technique.

Low balls
Midrange shots
High balls and crosses

Session 2
Positional play
A goalkeeper has to know where he/she is in relation to the goal, and where the ball is at all times. Good goaltenders move around the goal area constantly, so they are in the right position to make the save. Session deals with proper footwork - Lateral movement along the goal line - Forward movement off the goal line.

Session 3

Distributing the ball
Vision, well-aimed throws and kicks, initiating counterattacks, the goalkeeper’s distribution game has become so important in today’s game. Goalkeepers are an integral part of a teams attacking game.

Throwing the ball underhand
The overhead throw
Using the side arm throw

Session 4

Shot stopping
High shots can be a nightmare but can also give a goalkeeper the chance to cover themselves with glory. Dealing with high shots is a matter of technique and preparation. Session 5

Guarding the Goal
When an attacking player has a direct shooting opportunity, the keeper should always come off the line. This limits the area of the goal the striker has to aim at goal. Coming off the line is particularly important when a striker has a clear run on goal and is one on one with the keeper.

Backwards step towards goal
